In 1959, the late Jack Rich, a second-generation coal mine owner, realized he was purchasing as much diesel fuel for his mining operations as a small oil company. At the same time, he saw that home heating oil was quickly replacing coal as the primary heat source for families throughout Schuylkill County.
Origins: Pottsville Fuel Company
Recognizing both the operational need and the opportunity, Jack purchased Pottsville Fuel Company. The business not only managed diesel fuel purchasing for the coal operations, but also delivered home heating oil to customers across the region. Over time, the company expanded its offerings to include gasoline and diesel, lubricants, and other petroleum products to better serve both residential and commercial customers.

In the 1980s, the company was renamed Jack Rich, Inc. Since then, it has continued to grow and evolve—expanding from its coal roots into a diversified energy provider.
